What is clogging?
Clogging is a fast-paced, hand-clapping, country style of dance done with double "jingle taps" on the toe and heel of the shoe. There are different step styles in clogging. 'Buck' is derived from Cherokee Indian dancing and is a lot like 'flat-footing', meaning more on your heels and toes. 'Step' dancing originates from the Napoleanic years and showed up everywhere that Napolean had an influence. 'Canadian' step dancing is closer to tap than clogging. The BRC dances with a combination of all these techniques, in a style descended from the Appalachian mountains.
Who are the Bull Run Cloggers?
Founded in 1984 by Ginny Guertler, the Bull Run Cloggers are a non-profit group who performs in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area. We perform at craft shows, festivals, fairs, civic functions, celebrations, and more. If people want to have a good time, we are there. There are currently over 30 members in the group, with ages ranging from 8 to over 50. The Cloggers perform over 40 shows a year. And although clogging was traditionally done to bluegrass, the BRC dance to bluegrass, modern country, Celtic, swing, and today's Top 40's.
